Default Need advice on some apes.

Whats up guys? I am new to this site and was hoping to get some help with some ape hangers. I ride an 05 FXDL and cant decide what size apes to go with. I am gonna go with the nash gimps in either a 14 or 16 inch rise. I am also gonna use 3 inch risers with 1.5" of pullback. I am only bout 5'8 and with only 5 inches of pullback on these bars im worried that the 16s might be a little much, but i dont want to go with the 14s and not be satisfied. Anyone have any input or experience with these bars?

Joe...You should get paid for this! HD employees get paid to stare blankly at you and then suggest that if you aren't happy with your stock dyna, the only solution is trading it in for a screamin eagle ultra tri-glide ipod equiped margarita machine fairinged FLHOMO.

don't use a pullback riser on apes...like a fat chick in a halter top...yeech...you need more pullback then angle the apes less vertical... the nash gimps are measured from top to bottom not end rise so 16" will be more like 14" in say, chubbys...

Here is a piece of advice my local indy gave me. He said "Sit on the bike. Close your eyes and throw your hands out there 2 or 3 times, each time checking to see where they land. That will be where YOU are most comfortable. Maybe have a friend measure the difference between your grips and where your hands lie and you should come up with a good idea of what size handlebars to get."

lol thats the same thing a friend of mine said. The main reason i considered 16s was because i sit on a buddy of mines street bob thinking he had 12 inch apes. I measured up and thought 16 would be perfect. Then i found out that his were only 10s. Big disappointment. So i believe im gonna go with the 14s.

I have done apes pon my bikes, and beach bars on teh wifes. did the same thing all three times.

Get some 1" pvc pipe at the depot/lowes store. Build some handlebars and bolt them on. Start big, and it is then easy to cut them smaller. Sit on the bike and play, for a lot less money than buying the bars!!

I also agee with the previouse post, risers dont go with apes. use the angel to adjust pull back. just my 2c
