Hey guys, (and gals). Quick question regarding the various topics about tank lifts. What is the purpose for the tank lift? Is it more for asthetic reasons (changing the look), or is it for performance reasons (getting the tank a little further away from the top of the heads to keep the fuel cooler)?
I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything, just wondering... so please forgive me in advance for my ignorance. Fyi, I'm saving up for a FXDC (wifey wants me to put down a nice chunk) and I'm already planning on what course I want to take.
When it comes down to it, the tank lift is for looks. It's advertised to help cool the motor because it gives more air room over the top of the motor. And it very well might. But most of us probably do it for the looks. It's a cheap easy mod that makes a nice subtle difference on the bike.
Yeah, just for looks. Or, thats why I did mine at least. Cost me $20, and it looks awesome. Gave my bike more of a bobber look. I love it. Definitely well worth it!
It's supposed to keep the engine cooler by providing more room for air to circulate and heat to disipate. Has nothing to do with cooling the fuel. It's typically cool enough. LOL
Looks, what else! It's easier to clean the top, etc., on rocker boxes. I don't buy into any better cooling. If it does, it's so marginal, I can't tell it.
i have to go with the looks at first but i have noticed that my bike is riding a little cooler now when i check the dig thermo, as far as the windshield issue i had never rode with my shield on when it was down so i cant tell if it made a diff on that side of the house or not.
But the looks would be the number uno answer
