I've been eyeing these for months, and had originally planned to not leave the dealer without one on it, but I'm glad I waited, because now I understand how dramatic of a difference it makes. I scored this brand new off of ebay and got a great price. This is the SE part from HD, and its a beautiful chunk of machine work. Has a nice coat of chrome on it, too. It's held together with eight hex bolts. It came in this week, but only this weekend did I have a chance to get out and get some big miles on it.
If you've been considering one of these, do not hesitate. The difference it makes is incredible. You think your Dyna corners nicely now...? Think it's planted in a 70 mph sweeper? Brutha, you ain't cornered nuthin. This dude takes away almost all of the small drifts and hits you've only grown to ride with. Road snakes - it jumps right over. Those squiggly, snake-like lines they make in road cement these days? Plows right over them. One of my favorite local roads is a long, four-lane divided Farm Road that has a big left sweeper that goes into another big right hander about 1/4 mile later. I ran through it 10mph faster than I normally do this afternoon, and my FXDC felt more solid and planted than ever. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. I guess the look is not for everyone, but it more or less disappears into the fender on mine. I would think that any Dyna, in particular our brothers and sisters on Wide Glides, would benefit mightily from one of these.
If you've thought you might want to add one of these, go for it.
Thanks for the review...I've been wanting one of these and been checking ebay. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money for a chunk of chrome but if it works I'd be willing to. Thanks again.
Glad that was good info for you. But really - this is not a cosmetic piece. It is 100% functional. It looks good, and it is very well made, but I just can't believe the improvement it made. As I mentioned in my post, big, higher speed sweepers are where you'll really notice the difference. Mine was zooming around them like it was on rails.
A good deal, not exactly earth-shattering. Harley sells them for $199.00, and I got mine from a dealer in St. Paul for $160. With shipping, it was $171.00. But, really, well worth it. Powder coated, it would look fantastic.
