Default Derby Cover Removal Question

Guys,
Sorry for the newbie question but am doing my own service the first time. Got the engine and tranny fluids replaced OK but am having difficulty getting the derby cover off. I'm using a Torx T25 socket which seems a bit loose but can't get the T30 in either. The bolts are not budging as I come close to what feels like stripping the head. With a torque wrench I'm getting about 100-110 in-lbs of torque before it feels like the socket is about to strip. This is about the recommended torque for install but I don't think I can go any higher without stripping the head of the bolt. So what am I missing? Wrong socket? Any and all suggestions appreciated except for the one that says the dealer probably used permanent Loctite when they did the last service.

You need a T27.

I just changed mine out. I believe it is a 27 torx.
Good luck.

Yes make sure you have the right torx. I ended up stripping a couple screws on my old Sportster derby cause of what you were just describing.

you will also want to use a punch and smack each bolt before trying to remove them, it will break loose the loc tite and prevent you from stripping it wiht your T27

damn t 27... i broke one about 3 weeks ago. it was not a craftsman but i wanted to repalce it with a craftsman. sears doesnt sell the t27 by itself. you have to buy this kit with the odd ball torx in it. so instead of 5-10 bucks i ended up spending 30-35 on that 4 piece torx set. wasnt happy with sears that day!

moral to the story is get a nice quality set, like craftsman that shouldnt break. but dont expect a new one when you take it to your local sears.

ohhh... and to top that off i had a broken craftsman ratch, went to have it replaced with new (like normal) and they wanted to rebuild it in the back! well i ended up telling them i use these tools for a living and there is no way i'm walking out with anything less than new... they replaced it for new this time! me = mad at craftsman for this dumb move!

Changed my derby out yesterday...as everyone else has said, use a T27 torx socket...a lot of people seem to have a helluva time getting the bolts loose, but mine were easy. I tightened them back down until they met solid resistance but not excessively, since those torx bolts are fragile. The service manual says to retorque them to between 84-108 inch lbs, but I don't have a 1/4" torque wrench.
