Been looking at this site for long time, finally joined. Got a '00 FXDL with ~70,000 miles and on my last cross country (past summer) had a few issues with the ride. Biggest thing that happened was my stator and voltage regulator went out. Not really that big of a deal just took me a few days to track down the parts since I was literally in the middle of nowhere (no kidding, there wasn't a Harley shop around so you KNOW I was in the sticks).
Anyway, I was wondering how many of you guys have ammeter gauges. I've searched the dyna forums but haven't turned up much. Really it's the first big repair I've had to do on the bike so maybe I'm just being paranoid...but still. I'm sure there's stuff on the web but this is probably a better place to go...
My voltage reg went on me this summer while on the road; pull the headlight fuse and you can ride for quite a while until the battery craps totally...bought a HD voltmeter I intend on putting on somewhere this winter...
Kuryakyn makes a gas gauge with a voltmeter built in and it also has a matching gas cap. Not real crazy about Kury products but a lot of bikes have this setup.
have always thought about gettting one but i just dont like the set up any of them have... not sure.. maybe if i could incorp it into my dash i would rock one... nice to have
Voltmeter's are the go, less chance of failure (not running high amps through them) and they still indicate whether your systems is working.
Ammeters are slowly getting phased out
Well that explains why I can't find one. Wonder why ammeter's are on the outs? I figured they'd be the better choice for measuring output at the stator.

I have this setup on my WG, been working great for 3 years now, looks good and works good. Been the only Kury product I have remained happy with so far.
