Default battery replacement wide glide

This may sound strange, but please understand that it's coming from a softtail rider. What in the world is the secret to replacing the battery on a Wide Glide? The cover just doesn't seem to want to come off. On my softtail, you just take the seat off ----and----there it is!!!
I sure hate to sound stupid, so I thought I'd ask before I got out the BIG hammer.
Thanks in Advance
Ken

What year is your WG? On the later model Dynas, there are 2 bolts to loosen before the battery will come out. There is a 1/2" bolt visible on a vertical bracket to the left of the battery tray which actually holds the tray locked in position and there is a second 1/2" bolt that mounted above the first bolt that when loosened, will allow the battery tray to drop a little to access the battery. The first bolt needs to be completely removed to allow the tray to drop as the second bolt is loosened. For the most part, the small cover on top of the battery cannot be removed unless the bolts are at least loosened. It's also easier to remove a full battery cover if the bolts are loosened.

On the 06's there's just one bolt under the battery cover. Remove it, and the top is just slid on over two tabs...lift up off the tabs and the cover just slides right off. Easy peasy

To be honest. After 3 days of fiddling about with my 05 Super Glide I gave up on trying to remove it. But then again I only needed to attach the pig tail for the battery tender. I figured out that just grounding the negative connecection to the frame instead of the impossible to get at negative battery terminal would work.

Good Luck and you aint stupid.

Just one more reason to buy the service manual. You won't find anything much easier that taking out the battety, but w/o the manual, it can be a bitch to try and figure out.

To answer the first question--it's an '02. I think I may be able to sort it out after reading everyone's posts. I guess the "BIG Hammer"
is not called for yet.
Thanks to Everyone
