Default custom headlight install?

Ok, I finnally found the headlight I want. So before I start taking things apart and making more work for myself, a quick question. On the stock headlight of my 07 FXDC the wire runs into the frame ahead of gas tank. Is there a plug in there some place and if so how do I get at it, or do I have to splice the new wire onto the old one? Thanks for the help.

there will be a plug that plugs in directly to the headlight, of course you will never fit that through the hole in the back of the headlight. Most plugs can have the pins removed with a pick or the like, then maybe you can get them out individually. I just went through all this on my FXDF and I had to change the plug anyway so I just cut the wires and installed male/female connectors inside the housing.

There is a plug and it isn't that easy to get to but with a bit of effort you can do it.

There is a plastic cover under the frame neck that when removed allows access to the plugs for all the front wiring. The plastic cover can be removed easily if you see the barbs that hold it in, they are just above the piece on each side of the frame.

Good luck.

I looked into doing it and found it not worth it. I snipped the wire at a point that I could wrap and hide the splice later and removed the old light and installed the new one. I'd challenge anyone to ever notice if and where I did it unless you were specifically looking for it.

I did have a thread some months ago where someone was explaining just how to go about this, though, if you want to take the time to search for it. Basically, it was recommended to go to a dealer and get some new connectors and pins and attach them to my new headlight, unplug the old one inside the neck, and plug the new one in.

Also for reference, yellow is low beam, white is high beam, black is ground. If you should find yourself wondering. I did, but I had to change the style of plug. You may not.

Yep, depending on the light you got, the colors may not match so keep the above in mind. Also, some lights don't have a ground wire, they ground through the bucket to the mount/forks so you can just omit the ground wire on the bike.
