This forum is awesome and you guys are the best! OK...I put Cycle Shack slip-on's on my 09 FXD and love them. I just ordered a K&N replacement Air Filter and 13.8 to 1 Xied's. As I understand it, I do not need a MAP as my ECU will adjust to the A/C and mufflers. My question...should I put the K&N on and ride it a bit to let the ECU adjust before I install the Xied's, or does it matter.
Nope, toss em on right away. The ECU may be able to adjust a limited amount, but those XiEDS will basically just richen you up across the loop. No issues when I installed a big sucker kit, xieds, and slip ons all at once. You'll enjoy it!
Just an FYI... it will take a hundred miles or so for the ECU to adjust to the new setup. The only reason I bring this up is that some folk have put on XiEDs and didn't notice an immediate improvement and pulled them back off thinking they were either defective or wouldn't work on their bike.
Have been convinced reading about the Xieds .. Just got a set will be trying them tomorrow thanks for the tip about 100 miles .. never been famous for patience ..
I just had an e-mail exchange with Steve at Niterider (the guy who invented the Xied) and he said the 09 TC96s are coming from the factory running a little richer than the 07-08 engines. He said that means if you put Xieds on an 09, it's going to run richer than 13.8. He said for that reason he's recommending the X14ied or 02 IED for 09 models.
He said for someone like me, with no performance mods to the engine whatsoever, I should be more than pleased with the results of the (less expensive) 02 IEDs on an 09 TC96.
