Default Simple (?) Exhaust Question

I just added the newer Vance slash slip-ons to my 09 ultra. I understand that these can be run without any other air-fuel mods and wonder if any experienced users/techs can give their experience on this.

Also, does it make any sense to add an after-market fuel management system if I do “not” want to add high-flow air filter? All I am after is a little sound. The Vance fuel system only provides settings “with” free-flow air filter.

An old question but some previous posts are more involved than my question. Thanks for your help as I normally just a reader of all the informative posts.

1) yes you can run slips with nothing else
2) yes a fuel management will get the settings right for less heat, more power, etc. You can also use IED's or XIED's which would help

Here's a question I have as well. I intend to do slip ons, Samson or Rush possibly, but I also wanted to use a K&N filter element. Does that require a fuel management change or will I be OK with those two simple mods?

Obviously, if you compared corrugated cardboard to gauze, the material/makeup of the filter element does play a part in how much/well it will flow air. But in the real world, assuming clean filter elements, the major differences in intake flow will be gotten by the design of the airbox itself and not the element inside it. So just changing out the filter element inside your stock airbox shouldn't require reprogramming the fueling.

However, you might be flirting with that "necessity" if you combine freer-flowing mufflers with a freer-flowing filter element. It's my opinion that even just the mufflers can benefit from different fueling commands and I recommend that in every case if you can afford it. Some might argue against that as being not cost-effective enough but I'm not suggesting it'll always be the most cost-effective. Merely that the result will be worth the money to someone who appreciates such things and has enough discretionary cash to do it.

You don't say what year and model bike you want to modifiy.

To comply with EPA rules, the HD twin cam motors are set to run lean, which means HOT. Each change you made to let the engine to breath better make the engine run more lean. A fuel management system is the best way to go to reduce the lean conditions. If you're looking at the Rush mufflers and a K&N filter, you may want to look at Fuel Moto. They have combo specials that include Rush mufflers, high flow A/C, fuel management system and map at a very good price. There support is excellent also.

I totally agree with Bertk, and getting the package deal from Jammie @ Fuel Moto. And yes to the excellent support from him. You'll run a lot cooler with a fuel management system depending on the year of your bike. Even if you don't have a newer model, you'll benefit from better mufflers, AC, and a PCIII IMO.

Thanks, I'll consider the package when I make that move. Ride is going to be an 09 RG...
