Does any use a floor jack on their Dyna? I have seen the Softail models on jack stands, but the frame is a little different. Is there special blocks to put on the jack? I have one and would like to use it for cleaning, oil changes. etc., but I would like to hear from the experts on how to properly put it up on there. Thanks!
Jay,
Sears makes a pretty good jack for the money. Somewhere around 85.00. You will need to go to the dealer and buy a lift kit for the Dyna models. The kit is simple 4 blocks that go on the frame to raise the bike off of the jack. Sears makes a nicer jack for around 140.00 but, I don't think it works on Dyna's because of a bar that goes across the front of the jack, it hits the kickstand. There is a conversation going on in the General Forum about jacks that you can read too.
Looking in J&P's catalog I see where adapters are used for the higher quality jacks for Dynas. I am not sure why but I plan to look at the bottom of my bike and see where an adapter may be necessary. I plan on getting a jack and when I went to Sears online I did not see anything about an adapter for their jacks which make me wonder if it will be suitable for a Dyna.
The adapter is necessary to clear the oil pan. The Dyna oil pans extend under the frame and if you were to lift there you could damage the bike. The adapters allow the lift to lift the frame of the bike.
Actually, the adapters are needed because the right front frame has a piece sticking down to protect the oil pan. The adapters J&P sells are the HD adapters and you can get them cheaper from the HD dealer (especially if you use a dealer that offers a 10% or 20% discount, like Chicago HD.)
Just do a search on this site and you'll find all kinds of info on the jacks....
I have the new Sears Jack it works fine with the stealers blocks I think they cost me $24.00 bucks...
