Question Timer cover

Hey guys,
I'm no mechanic, but I've added a lot of bling to my '08 Fat Bob. The pipe side is almost all chromed out except the part that the timer cover is attached to.
What is that part and is it easily replaced if there is no chrome cover for it? Thanks for you help!!

Well, the part that you are talking about is called a timing cover. There are various choices from HD and tons from after market manufacturers. You usually can find them in matching sets for your primary cover as well. Just so you know, there is nothing under it. You can take it off at will.

I think your talking about a cam cover? That is what the timer cover is attached too. Cost is about $150 new from HD.

The cam chest cover can be a PIA to take off without removing the forward exhaust, but it can be done. Put the wheels on a couple of boards so the bike leans a little more, this will minimize the amount of oil draining out when the cover is pulled.

OOOHHHHHHHHHHH. The 'cam' cover is what you are talking about. Yeah, HD sells them chrome and just drain the oil before you do it.

You don't have to drain the oil before changing the cam cover. You will only lose a few ounces when taking it off.

Don't forget a new gasket and torque in sequence so you don't warp the new cover. Be sure to mark the location of all the fasteners and clean the threads and use loctite on them when you reinstall.
