Default 09 street bob passenger peg help!!!!!

New to the forum and could really use some help. I purchased a set of Harley passenger foot pegs. I started to install them and now I have run into serious problems. The belt side bolts will not for the life of me come off. I worried about stripping the bolt. I was able to take off the belt guard, but I even had trouble with the bolt on the front of the belt guard. There seems to be some salt or lock tite that has dried up and is making it difficult to loosen the bolts. Is there some sort of lubricant that I could use that will penetrate and loosen the bolts?

Also, I followed the darn Harley directions and I loosened the rear wheel. Any advice for checking the rear alignment and belt tension.

I am so fustrated at this point, that I am close to just taking the bike to the dealer. There has to be a way to get those bolts off.

Harley puts Loctite on the threads at the factory. Get some PB Blaster and spray on the bolts. Let sit for about 5 minutes and they will unscrew like butter.

Yeah anything like wd-40,liquid wrench should work fine. But I'm wondering why HD would have you loosen the rear wheel to install pegs?

I've seen PB Blaster loosen bolts that WD40 didn't even phase. That stuff is amazing.

Tip: If you ever have problems getting stubborn mufflers to slip off the head pipes, spray a little PB Blaster around the joint and let it sit a few minutes. They almost remove themselves after that.

I think Harley has you loosen the rear wheel so that you can have better access to the bolts. I wasn't going to loosen the wheel, until I started having trouble loosening the bolts. I figured, I just needed more leverage. I found some PB Blaster at my local autozone online and I am going to go pick that up and give it a try.

As for the rear wheel, I have ready plenty on aligning the rear wheel from this forum, so I think I can handle that. I was thinking of taking it to a local motorcycle shop so they can check the tension and alignment for better accuracy.

Gary7,I always used wd-40 because it seems like I have 20 cans of it laying around. Don't know why I have so many but will have to get a can of PB Blaster to try. Thanks

Do NOT take the wheel off. I and several others have installed rear peg mounts while the bike was parked by the curb on a jiffy stand. All you have to do is get that front belt guard bolt removed...leave the rear one alone. If WD40 doesn't work, use a small butane torch to heat it up...this will cause the loctite to break down. I had to do it with the torch.

x2 on the torch. If I have a bolt with loctite on it I always use a torch. You don't have to get it red hot, just heat it up and try it if it is still tight heat it a bit more and it should come out easy.
(x? on the PB Blaster, used to use WD 40, but it is more for Water Displacement. PB Blaster will work through rust to remove nuts and bolts. It is truly the best.)

You bet. Did you get the pegs on without taking off the rear wheel?
