Default Hot Thunderheader

After burning a hole in two pr of pants, one at 24 degrees, I decided to figure some heat shields for the bob. One scrap piece I still need to cut a little bit off, and the original stock rear shield. I'm gonna cut the bottom piece (not mounted yet)off a little short, paint them black and it should work out ok.

They'll look good in black. I'd take a look at the PCIII map if it's getting that hot.

I've never had issues with any of mine gettin that hot, but then again I ride mid controls & I noticed you ride forwards, so your pants are right there. Still seems odd though?

yea it must be a foward control thing.
never had any problem with heat
but the shields do look good.
i can see how that could be a prob with your setup

Those heat shields look like they'll work alright but in my experiance the state of tune will have allot more impact on how much heat it puts out than anything else.I have heard that the 96s run hot but my 88 was running hot enough to burn holes in my pants before I got it tuned on a dyno.

A bare pipe without a heatshield or wrap is going to burn anything that touches it. I had a Thunderheader on my old FXRS without shields. The Mikuni was jetted right on and the pipe had a really nice gold color. I don't think I'd be brave enough to ride without heat shields again though. Wrecked too many clothes. Scuff that chrome and spray on some high temp black and those shields should dissapear nicely into that pipe.

Bike runs like a scalded asp ape with that pipe, it is running an advanced map from fuel moto that I have been tinkering with the mid range, I tune em with a good base map then tune by the seat 'o my pants, so far performance wise its working great, did have to turn the accelerator pump down to 1/2 what's recomended for a base race mode to get it right.
Last night I took a drimmel and cut the eccess off both shields, replaced the bottom shield clamp on the rear and scuffed em up and did the hight temp black paint thing, looking much nicer, still have to modify the bottom piece a little and paint it and put it on, but I rode with thin pants last night and it was not really overly hot. Ill post a pic when Im done.

hey when you cut the shields... to protect the chrome from flaking while you cut... put some mailing tape on the chrome surface... this will allow you to have clean smooth cuts and still have good chrome all the way across the shield

I kind of like the chrome accent against the black header. Looks good. Nice contrast without going overboard.
