I just picked up my 09 on Saturday. While I was pleasantly surprised with the sound of the stock pipes the first time I fired it up, I know I'm going to want to do a Stage I at some point. The thing is, the only pipes I've liked are the Cycle Shacks and Screaming Eagles. I dug the Cycle Shacks I had on my Nightster, but not sure if I want to be that loud. The Screaming Eagles look cool, but I'm not sure if they'll be loud enough.
What are you guys running?
Congrats on the Bob. I have an 09 also and I am running the Screaming Eagles S.O. The good and the bad about the SE mufflers. The good, installation can be done at home as they do not require any adjustments to the fuel injection system, ie downloads, Power commander etc, etc. They do change the sound. It now sound like a Harley again. The bad, while they are louder than the stock part, they not as loud as replacing the stock pipes with the likes of Vance and Hines or Cycle Shack. When I get around to doing a stage 1, ( I have to save my money first.) I will do a high-flow intake, a set of pipes, and a PC. Since the Bob is a relatively new model, our choices are somewhat limited for S.O. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
If you like the sound of the stock muffs but just want a little louder, I would encourage you to mod them the way I did the Street Bob muffs I put on my FXDC. Drill a 1/2" hole in the baffle plug of each muff.
It was warm enough yesterday that I rode the entire day with my 1/2 helmet on, and it was only then that I realized just how damn good these things sound. At idle and cruise they are just a little bit louder than stock, but man when you roll on the throttle they will wake the dead with most bad-***, vintage Harley sound this side of a 47 Knucklehead. It's the best of both worlds: Relatively quiet when you're just loafing along, but bad to the bone when you want to get down on it.
Here's a vid on YouTube that shows how straight forward doing the 1/2" hole mod is:
Thanks! I dig the SE's... the Rush pipes weren't as loud as I thought they'd be.
You can't go by these vid clips. Most of these cameras have auto level control for the audio portion of the recording, so they don't accurately reflect large differences in volume outside a narrow range.
Rush muffs with 2" baffles are going to be considerably louder than SE SP muffs.
I have Rush 2" and they are great. I would like to go to a full system upgrade in the future, but they are a great bang for the buck slipon. I get compliments on the sound and they look almost stock and very easy to install. You might only need the 1.75" if you don't want to get too loud.
I agree with Gary7. I have Rush 2" baffle on my 08 Fat Bob and I really love it. It is much louder than stock, no comparison. Low and beefy sound. I checked video but it does not reflect true sound at all. Lot of guys recommended Rush on this forum and price is good as well. I bought mine at around 280.

when I tossed up exhaust options at the dealer they immediately recommended Rush slip-ons. I didn't get them but I have since talked about them with others and everyone says they sound great. If I had chosen slip-ons I probably would have gotten those.
