Default Fork Lowers - How To Protect

I am one of the new Sportster to Dyna Trade Up Members and wanted to do something different this time. I purchased my Sportser new in 07 and it wasn't 3-4 months and my fork lowers were ate up with chip marks all over them. I guess this is from rocks and pebbles kicking up off the pavement and hitting them. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how to keep this from happening?
Thanks for the great Forum.

I don't have a problem with chips either... but I don't typically ride on many gravel roads. Maybe get them powdercoated if they start to look bad.

you can wax them. That or get chrome lowers. Maybe even powdercoated lowers will be more resistant to chips, lovebugs, etc...
Also stay away from dump trucks and other vehicles that kick out rocks and flying debris.

I have waxed mine with car wax. Doesn't do much for the shine, but definitely helps keep any bugs from sticking to them.

You say you want to do something different and prevent chipping? Get them powder coated to match your paint. You'll get a custom look that is different from the normal black forks, and they will look great for a long time. Or, if you don't want them colored, have them polished out then powder coated clear so you don't have to keep rubbing them out to keep them polished.

Think the only way you can stop that from happening is to park the bike and never ride it. Chips from flying debris is inevitable. You could try encasing the front end with Kryptonite. If it can keep Superman at bay, I suspect other flying debris would be equally scared.

You could also try some of that 3M clear film stuff they use to protect paint.
