Default WTF Derby cover

Trying to change out my derby cover and now i have went threw 2 torx bits trying to get it off.. they where now some dollar store stuff either.. from sears... and craftsman.. One striped itself out and the other broke right in half.. is there some kind of trick to the derby cover that i dont know about or do you all just think i am gettin a bad batch off tools????

what size are you using..? could try using a impact driver to unseat them first...never had much of a problem ...

Smack the end of the bit with a hammer before trying to turn it. If you've stripped the bolt you'll need to drill the head off. Once I got all mine out I replaced them with Stainless steel socket head cap screws and never had another problem.

I had the same problem, I switched brands of torx bits to an ACE hardware brand that was guaranteed for life but if you're using Craftsman that shouldn't be the problem.First try squirting some penetrating oil or WD40 on them and letting them sit for awhile.Then maybe try tapping them with a hammer.Actually you should just buy an impact wrench you really can't do much work on a motorcycle before you need one.

Yep - and when that fails, drill and easyout. Then replace the screws with allens.

wonder if they were put on with red loctite for some reason? some people slather that stuff on anything with threads

I think it is the t27. I know some guys try a t25 thinkin it fits and strip em out. t-27 with an impact driver or just hit it with a bigger hammer.

i'm sorry i got to agree. you got to have a T-27 and a impact.i have worked on alot of bike's thru the year's and a impact is your best friend.
