How thick of mesh were you thinking? If it was thin and you could get your hands on a donor dash, you could cut out that lower section mount it underneath and use it to sandwich the mesh.

You'll need to remove the console and clean under it periodically, as that will allow dirt to accumulate beneath it. As meticulous as your are with your bike, I'm sure you've already thought of that ....

dude i do this on rockets all the time... here is how you make grills for it!
- go to home depot and get some screens like you use in a stove, for the fan, they are silver and have 2 screens per filter with some silver mesh crap in the middle
(i use this cause it is very light, easy to work with and mold)

-cut your sections, from here you can push the sceen a bit thought the openenings so that they look like they where molded to the dash and not behind it...
- i secure it all down with silicone cauk around the edges

*i have done this on prob 10 rockets now, never had any issues with it getting loose or anything... i am actually going to be doing the same on my TX500 build so i can take pictures if you need it... i will look though my PC to see if i have nay pics of the rocket grills i have done. super easy to do
the screen looks like this and each piece gives you two decent size screens:

*I just looked all though my work PC, no pics of the grills, i emailed a buddy i work wiht that i did his bike to see if he has any... ill post some when i get home, super easy to do man the the results are AWESOME!!!

drill one more hole up top and move the ignition switch while you're at it!

like the new tank mounts a lot, going to consider that.

Going to try and remove the keyed ignition from the equation completely....the ignition will become just a fork lock and use the keyfob/security proximity to wake the bike up then just hit on/off then start. Need to bury my head in the wiring diagrams to figure it out. I think whatever circuit the alarm opens up would just need to go to the ignition circuit or just a toggle to disarm/override. Still mulling it over. Thanks for the compliments
