Default Dash mod....opinions/ideas?

Drilled some 1 1/2" holes in the dash with the intention of backing the holes with a tight stainless steel screen but having doubts/questions about how to keep the mesh in place without any exposed fasteners after having it repowdered. Watcha think? Thought it would give the illusion of split tanks. Also in a completely bored moment.....I drilled and tapped the tank mount points for 3/8-16 helicoils and now mount the tank with (4) SS buttonhead bolts instead of that gross hex head bolt.

That should be a nice touch muddy.

Since you are going to pCoat,
simply weld the mesh.

Default Dash Mod

It would look good with either stainless or chrome mesh. Like the GMC or Jaguar grills. Now they look like lighting holes on aircraft spars.

Welding would be awesome....however the dash is steel and I wanted to use stainless steel mesh after powder to give me a contrast instead of welding steel screen in and powdercoating everything.

MudyApe,

Great idea! I like the fact that it is something different, and I think will look good.
As far as mounting that, the epoxy idea is good, just make sure the under surface of the dash is clean.
Muds suggestion of welding is probably a better one, as long as you can weld thin metal, it is a bit different then welding say 1/8" plate or something to that effect. Another idea may even being brazing it in place.
And last but not least, JBWeld. This should work also.
I can not wait to see it when you are done!!!! So please att. pics when completed!!!!

That contrast will look real good.

Make sure you get a high quality stainless so it doesn't discolor over time.

You can mask off the mesh when coating,
or,
weld on threaded stubs, then nut the mesh after pCoating.

I'd be leery of epoxy on the smooth surface.

You can cut the mesh into squares or 1 long rectangle that take up the entire space and weld small plates on the dash itself to hold it in place, makes it easy if you need to change out the mesh and reattach
