My bike is currently a stage 1 upgrade. Do I need to start messing with the carb and its jets for the most performance. Also is dyno tuning worth the expensive money a bike shop is going to charge. I guess my question is it worth the time and money for a certain amount of performace gain?? thanks for any and all info
you can also buy a mikuni hsr42 or hsr45 (twin cam) it wil also speed up the bike... if that's what you are looking for
the original carb is only a 40mm i believe!!!
if you can find a hs40 it wil also get very nice results
this with a K&N air filter and a 2 in 1 exhaust (like a supertrapp)
than you've got the best tuning without opening your engine!!!
+1 on a mikuni hsr 42... real nice upgrade for less than 400 bucks.
one more thing ... Daytona twin tech ignition module... won't get all your power without one!
Stage 1 as in a/c and pipes? A stock jetted carb with aftermarket a/c and pipes will run lean and jetting is not only for performance but for getting the right fuel/air mixture so you don't burn something up. If the bike only has a pipe change or aftermarket slip-ons, stock jets should be ok.
Never had anything dyno'd, and it probably depends on the tuner, but if they know what are doing and can get your bike dialed in, it would be worth it I suppose. Depends on how much you want to spend.
You should change the jetting since you will be running too lean with the free flowing pipes & air cleaner. Consider that without jetting changes you have the same amount of fuel as before, but more air flowing into the mixture creating a leaner AFR.
Dyno tuning is up to you & what you want to spend & how well you want your performance optimized. Check around & make sure where ever you do take your bike really does know what they're doing & you don't waste your money on a mickey moused "tune".
You should be able to get a good ballpark idea on where your jetting is at by checking your plugs. Dyno tuning will provide data showing that is obviously more accurate.
