I have purchased a flush mount kit for my 06 wide glide, it has instructions for installing but not that clear on removing the existing fuel gauge and fuel cap. Thought maybe someone got some tips on removing.
fuel cap unscrews, fuel gauge just pulls out. you have to unclip the wires below the tank where they come through. Ther are plenty of threads on this forum with details on how to do this. good luck and post some pics.
Remove the front tank mt, with the front of the tank raised you can get to the fuel gauge connector whose wires come out of a hole directly below the gauge.(it may be cable tied to the frame) Taking this lose will give you enough slack to pull the gauge up(pull straight up, don't twist) enough to unplug the original. (The instructions say to remove the plug under the tank and remove wiring and all, but the manual says if you're just replacing the gauge, simply unplug the harness from the gauge. I'm doing the same but don't want to have to remove the connector from the original and put it back on the new wiring if in fact the wiring is the same.
+1 on removing the front tank mount and lifting up on the tank to reach/find the connector. I screwed around for about 30 minutes trying to find that thing, and then finally removed the tank mount, and had the connector undone in about 30 seconds. It's amazing how much time you can waste trying to save time by skipping a step!
