Default New Flush Mount Gas Cap/Sender

Greetings all,
Just picked up the new flush mount gas cap/fuel sender with LED from Harley for my 2008 Softail Custom. I'm looking at the instruction sheet and they don't really mention the procedure for removing the old sender separate. The shop manual shows taking out the whole fuel pump assembly to access and remove the old sender. Has anyone installed one of these kits yet? Just wondering if it is necessary to remove the whole pump, etc to install the new sender or is there enough harness to just pull the old sender out of the tank and switch it that way. Thanks for the help.

you're not removing the sending unit, just the fuel gauge.

the fuel gauge is removed by gently pulling up on it and twisting back and forth, the instructions say to unplug the fuel gauge harness and remove the pins from the connector, the wires for the fuel gauge go through a small tube in the gas tank to the underside of the tank on the left side of the bike, if you look under the fuel tank on the left side you will see the wires coming out of the tank.

Sure glad I posted on the forumabout installing this new flush mount gas gauge. Deuce came to my rescue in the above post. He was 100% right. The fuel gauge has a wire that runs through a tube on the left side of the fuel tank. It is held in place with a small clip on the under side. Once you pull the wire from this clip, you can reach up and pull the connector down from underneath the tank. Unplug the connector and with a small pick you can remove the wires from the connector. Then just pull the gauge up and out of the tank. Thread the new gauge wires down through the hole and pipe, plug the wires into the new connector provided and you're home free. The rest of the installation is pretty well covered in the enclosed instructions. Thanks.

The instructions make the install seem much more difficult than it is. The flush caps were the first addition to my Rocker C and they look much better than the stock caps.

Glad you got them installed OK and you'll be very happy with them.

dont the wires disconnect from the back of the gauge, like the older stock version? no wire terminals on the back of the gauge? reuse stock wires.

The flush fuel gauge cap comes wired to the cap and the connector for the harnesson the end loose in the box. Run the wire down the tube in the tank, plug the wires into the new connector, and then plug the connector into the harness. No reusing of any stock wires.

tried to do it on my fat boy and the instructions that come with them just are not very clear so i ended up taking it to the dealer 65 dollars later it looks awsum.. With that said my stock gauge would seam to stick on 3/4 full and then with a gallon left move to almost empty does anyone know if there is a float switch or something in the tank that can be looked at. The flush gauge seems to do the same thing that tells me its not the guage.
