I discovered the same problem today. My initial thought was to replace the pedal with a wider one, so I could keep my foot more toward the outside of the peg and still reach the brake. Then I bought my Corbin saddle today and it changed things enough that the air cleaner was no longer an issue.

Not sure why; it just is.

Yes, adding the Reach seat changed the angle for me too, but the air cleaner cover that was on there actualy came out further than a stock one. So for me that was the solution.

Instead of working on the pedals possibly consider an air filter cover change? I have a V&H cover and have no issues.

Yes, that's what I did (except a HD cover).

My fxrs, had the least expensive. and also want to say the most limited options when it comes to forward controls. You had to lift your foot off the pegs to brake or shift.!! I had a co-worker shorten the brake rod so that it would match the natural foot movement, and now I have a sweet shifter. If youl look in the j&p catalog there is not alot of forward control options for the fxrs. So, I re engineeried my own. The pivot point for your shifter should be the pivot of your ankle. The same with the brake, I shortened the brake rod so that it would more like your car, just slip your
foot to the side to hit the brake instead of lifting your foot off the pegs. I am amazed that they call these controls USA engingeeried, they have not r
iden harley's or know how to or have the fainitis(did I spell that right) on how to ride a bike!!!! Maybe it comes back to my old dirt tracking days. But I feel if you lift your foot off the pegs to control our scoot you loose the three point standard of control. Love to here other opinoins on this matter

Went through the same problem and finally just bought the larger brake pad. Not as pretty as the smaller pad but I'm not willing to fumble around for the brake pad when a split second can sometimes make the difference between life and death.

Good Luck

I'm with murphdog, I added heel rests to my wide glide and it moved the pegs out a little more than an inch and got rid of the knee-in-the-filter thing and the heel rests are comfy also---

I could use some quick input on this.

I'm 5'11" and just traded in my 2007 Sportster w/forwards for a 09 FXDC. I pretty much automatically said "put on the forwards" since that's what I'm used to and like, but now am wondering if it will be too much of a stretch. I rode one with the mids just a little and it felt weird. Should I just go w/highway pegs and wait, or do people think I'll be OK? I really like the feel of the forwards and want to go that route if possible, but now this "air cleaner in the way" thing also has me concerned.

Any input would be appreciated, since I need to let them know ASAP and plan to pick it up this weekend...!

P.S. I'm also getting the Sundowner 2-up seat put on, if that makes a difference. I think that should move me up an inch or two...

If you are unsure, go with the highway pegs to get you started, then decide. Forwards are an expensive mistake if they aren't right for you.

I am 6'2", but couldn't handle the expense of forwards when I got my FXD. The highway pegs were a great addition to the mids. They bought me some time to decide.

I found that the flatter air cleaner cover helped quite a bit. That being said, I still wish I had mids on the bike and i think I had better control with the Sporty and mids.
