My new bike has forwards, and I am used to mids. I can reach the pegs fine, but it feels a little awkward to get the brake pedal, since the air cleaner hits my knee. Is it just me, or something I have to get used to, or is there anything I can adjust?
The brake pedal can be adjusted up and down, not side to side.
If the pedal height adjustment will help you, remove the rod from the brake pedal, loosen the jam nut on the other end at the master cylinder, rotate rod clockwise to lower pedal, counter-clockwise to raise. When good, tighten jam nut and re-attached rod to pedal.
I put a wider pedal pad on my WG to move the pedal out farther a bit. It helps a little, but the air cleaner on my leg still pretty much bugs the **** outta me.
Also consider either dressing the end of the rubber pad bolt with a file or capping it with an acorn nut to keep your boot from getting too scuffed if your toe rests near it. It may not be necessary, but it was scratching my boot pretty good on my bike.
I have the same issue. Thought about welding an extention to the brake and then replacing the rubber to give me 1/2in to an 1in more on it so I dont have to trun my foot in so far. Anyone know if replacing the A/C helps out at all?
You need to get your footpegs and brake pedal pad further out. Kuryakyn has 1.25"-2.5" footpeg extenders, 1" longer than stock footpegs, footpegs with stirrups (heel rests) which move your feet out 1.25" and longer than stock brake pedal pads and shift pegs.
I use their footpegs with stirrups and longer brake pedal pad and shift peg and get along fine. An added benefit of the heel rests is that when you lift your foot to downshift or brake, your heel stays in contact instead of your entire foot coming off the peg.
And do adjust the angle of the brake pedal so it's easy to get on the pad as jmpancoast suggested.
I had the same problem with the football next my knee. I replaced the football with an SE Air Cleaner and the thinnest AC cover I could find. Also have the Kury forward controls.
