Well, I did some investigating on this rotor and it seems the new Screaming Eagle compensator is integral with the rotor.

The one piece rotor was list $159

The SE compensator through Chicago H-D was $199.99.

So I ordered the SEcomp today with some other parts. My local wouldn't budge on the price for the SEcomp which lists for $249.95 so I saved some money on a high performance part that will fix the rotor problem on my '06 hopefully before it grenades the stator.

So what all has to be taken apart to get to this? This makes me nervous too!

It ain't a bad job.

Take off the primary cover.

Secure the chain tensioner with a ziptie.

Take off the clutch and compensator.

Some take off the inner primary, some just pull the rotor off the shaft - easier and safer with a puller (just about any generic puller will do).

IF you leave the inner primary on, you will have to grind away a portion of the front inside because the new rotor/compensator is larger.

re-install the clutch, chain and unzip the tensioner.

Button it back up and fill with oil.

There is an excellent writeup with detailed pictures here. Just scroll about halfway down the page.

The bike in the pics has the old style chain tensioner, not the '06 and leter Dyna style, but other than that and the tool used to hold the clutch and compensator while tightening and loosening, it's all the same.

Note about sniper's link the good stuff really starts on page 3, but it's one of the best write ups I've seen on this site (so far)

I guess my length of page default is a bit longer, there is only two pages on that thread when I'm looking at it.

Oh well, it is invaluable information for sure.

UPDATE! HD wanted $295 for the new rotor/stator combo, It seems that the new welded rotor wont work with the factory stator. I decided to just weld the bolt heads so they cant back out and run it till the stator goes out on its own. Rode it to work today and all is fine.

rule, it's not a lot more for the SE compensator (which includes the rotor)
and I believe it works with the 006 and up stator.
I haven't verified this though, so I'm not sure.
The SE comp assembly appears to be a big improvement
over the stock compensator.

You're on target mud. The book lists the SE compensator for '06 dyna and all '07 up big twins. This looks like the absolute best way to kill two birds with one stone. upgrade '06 rotor AND upgrade stock compensator on all late model big twins.

Mine should be here in 10 days-2weeks from ChicagoH-D if they get it in 4-5 days.

If I run into any problems I'll give a heads up to the board.

snipe, I'm not clear - are you saying you ordered the SE comp??

if so, I will be very interested to hear whether or not the stock stator *works*.

I read the book like you, that it will *work*.
Haven't been able to verify.

Yes, I ordered it and am waiting for CHD to get it and then send it to me.

From everything I have read, it is a direct bolt on replacement. Some of the guys that have installed it have gone with a shortcut leaving the inner primary on and grinding the front of the inner primary away for clearance. rbabos is the one tech member that did it, I believe, but can't find the thread right now. He was working on a softail so the primary is different from ours. No biggie either way for me if when I take off the outer I find taking off the inner is mandatory I will simply buy a couple of Orings and get it done.
I'm really looking forward to this in hopes that some of the excessive vibration I'm getting will be addressed.
