I don't know anyone who has the newer bikes. I heard from one source that they overheat. Any truth to that or just some moron spreading lies? Also the HD dealer told me that the bikes are going up about 5% in March. Anyone hear anything about that?
"Over-heat" meaning they run warmer than 80 cu.in. just like a 113 cu. in. will run "warmer": larger bore=more heat being produced. Dunno about the 5%.
The 07 and 08 TC96 engines are notorious for running much hotter than the TC88 did. This is because Harley has them set up to run very lean to meet EPA standards. But as far as "overheating," that's bunk.
For 09 they finally wised up and realized they didn't need to run the engines that lean to meet EPA, so the 09s are running a little richer, and therefore a little cooler.
From what I have read the fuel injection makes the new 96's run a little hotter. Synthetic oil helps. If I rode in hot and humid places, would consider an oil cooler or engine fan. Some folks say the tank lift helps keep them cool. Plan to put a LCD oil temperature gauge on this summer and then decide if I need an oil cooler.
