Too thick, too thick, too thick...if you're talking about this:

If I was going to use a 50 wt oil in the primary I'd just stick with Formula+. I wanted something thinner to get rid of the excessive clutch drag and grab I get when the bike is cold.

Obviously, had the manuals stated the bike needed to be upright to refill the primary, I would not have posted a question about it. Nowhere did I ask about the capacity of the primary or the proper amount to put in. The manuals I have for my bike are clear on that. It's 32 oz. Some of the answers I'm getting should show everyone why it's important to get a service manual and independently verify as much information as you can when it comes to things like this. Not to disparage anyone here, but the info that is sometimes posted on this forum is simply not accurate, or may not be applicable to every model bike.

As I stated, my response was for an 04 FXDWGi. Perhaps your manual is different model and year, but as I stated, UPRIGHT for xmission and primary on 04 FXDWGi. Perhaps you should reconsider your statement about accuracy of information and do some research before making such statements.

As yours does, my manual also states "With the motorcycle on a level surface and resting on jiffy stand, check lubricant level.", but it is for engine ONLY on Page 97

I must disagree with you... Right out of HD manual, part number 99467-04

Primary:
Page 105 of owners manual, and I quote exactly, "When checking the chaincase lubricant level, motorcycle should be standing STRAIGHT UP, not leaning on jiffy stand. Keep motorcycle upright for a short period of time to equalize lubricant level in chaincase compartments".

Page 107 of owner's manual, figure 43 shows oil level at bottom of clutch pack with statement " Figure 43. Lubricant level with motorcycle upright".

Transmission:
Page 102 of same manual states, and I quote exactly, "Note: When checking the transmission lubricant level, motorcycle should be standing STRAIGHT UP, not leaning on jiffy stand. Keep motorcycle upright for a short period of time to equalize lubricant level in transmission compartments".

If there is any further question on accuracy of statements, I will be more than happy to scan the pages and send them to you.

Well, as I said: In my manual on page 90 it says to check the transmission oil with the bike on the jiffy stand.

Different model years, different methods..........

My ques, what seals the clutch cover on a 2009? Gasket, or o-ring? Can it be reused?

It's a big silicon o-ring. And even though the manual says use a new one every time, it sure looks like it could be reused to me, which I'll probably do next time. But since I'd already bought a new one this time, I used it.

Why? My bike is an 09, so why would a research the procedure for any other model year?

Thanks. Next time I need to know any maintenance procedure for an 04 Dyna you'll be the first one I ask.
