Does anyone make an S&S style cover like below, with a central hole, instead of the usual 3 holes to fit stage 1 instead of the football ? I could get a normal S&S style cover, then fit a teardrop shaped trim ,at a push, but just fancy the cover on it's own.
No. I've been looking at getting one and 'makin it work'. There were hundreds of those style covers at the swap meet I visit in Charlotte and they were cheap. I thought that a mount bracket would need to be designed. Not a direct bolt on situation. Not even sure it will clear the air filter enough so as not to restrict air flow.
You could make an internal bracket similar to the one that comes with the Harley Stage 1 Kit. Wouldn't bee too hard. Just a washer type piece that was bid enough to cover the 3 holes on that cover, from the inside. Then bolt that to your center hole in the air cleaner, then bolt the cover to the bracket. Wouldn't take more than an hour to put together I wouldn't think.
I have never seen one with a single hole. That would put a screw right in the centre of the air intake.
That's the idea, same as the standard football.(i want to use my existing stage 1,just swap out the cover to the S&S type if possible.
I have thought of modding one to fit,by drilling a center hole, and just putting nuts on the back of the 3 standard screws, but, saying as they are not that common over here (UK),i would have to check the depth of one.
Or i could just buy the S&S kit,or a K&N kit with replica cover. The K&N kit with replica cover is about 70 bucks here, whereas the S&S kit is about 180.
Just get one have the holes welded shut with an aluminium tig welder and make a new hole..
Hell i think ill take this on as a project..
Lemme find one and ill make this sucker work..
no you could do it like octane said that way all you see (and use) is the 3 original holes and the adapter uses the centre hole.
i've been thinking about doing this myself but these s&s covers aren't as readily available in oz...
The only issue I can see with the single bolt on the tear drop is if it wasn't secured in two places it might rotate. I wanted one too but they are double the price of the Screamin Eagle or the Ness Big Sucker. Just couldn't justify it for the sole purpose of looks alone.
S&S backing plate has a velocity stack. Should have more air flow and less turbulence than the Ness or SE. I would have gotten an S&S had my RSD not been such a steal.
