Default carb for me

I do my own wrenching on my bikes and I prefer carbs.
I tuned my carb and messed around with it at the start, added a power tube with the SE AC and couldn' t be happier. I don' t have the problem with cold start ups living in tropical Australia as you guys have in the north US.
I like the fact that nothing electrical can go wrong when I am out on the road with the carbed system.
I can ride 1000 kilometres away from the nearest dealer and know I can get her home if something goes wrong. I could wait for 3-4 days for parts on an injected system even if I could figure out the fault code on the pc that I would have to carry.

An interesting side note, I rode a 09 SE Dyna the other day for about an hour with a mixture of highway and city riding and it seemed to remind me of early injection systems of years gone by; very jerky at city speeds on and off the throttle up to 40 mph, and it pinged it' s head off under load.
just my 2 Pacific Pesos worth

As an indication of where I come from, my cage is a 69 GMC 2500 Longhorn, (ain't alot of them around), 307, crane cams, solid lifters, quadrajet, 700R4 set to shift at about 35MPH if I keep my foot in it, (or thump my head if I ease from a stop and forget to ease off the accelerator at aroun 10 mph). Both my bikes are carbed and I think I will stick with that. Too much electronics and computers and such with the EFI and if it goes while you are on the road you are kind of screwed, especially if your cell phone quits to. But then again what then hell do I know, I still miss the kicker.

Being "an older wrench", It was difficult for me to embrace FI. I loved my Holley's...... Then the inevitable happened when carbed vehicles became as scarce as a Yetti, went to tech weenie side of FI. Never looked back. Still enjoy tinkering w/ the carbs now and again, but the positive side of FI for fuel economy, cleaner engines, fewer tuneups, no choke problems, no more "tickling" the Amile side drafts, no more syncronizing and everything else outweigh the reletive few (knock on wood) problems ever encountered w/ FI. I am now a FI **** that has learned to putz with it almost as much as my beloved carbs. Plug in the USB cable, tap on the keyboard to tweek away and be happy, until the electronic gremlin strikes. Then I'm sure I'll be cursing FI and calling for a Federal Mandate to return to the carbs.

I have contemplated many many times ripping of my EFI and putting a carb on me bike.
At the moment it's only funds that are stopping me.

That's how I feel, throw in the auto tune and I'm glad I have FI.

It's crossed my mind several times as well. Cost being the limiting factor for me also.

You need another choice: Run a carb but would not mind FI. I do agree with the others that said the choke/enricher is a non-issue. How much trouble is it really? My '05 has never failed to fire right up.

You don't need to spend money on a fuel management system on an EFI bike for pipes and an aircleaner. The new bikes have the closed loop that will adjust with just the flash, might not be a perfect tune but it will do. Personally, I'll never go back to a carb as my primary bike. I like to hit the starter and go no matter what temp or elevation i'm at. The right pipes and a cam change will give you a good sound, nothing like a Shovel in my opinion but a good sound none the less.

When it is 35 degrees and the guys with the carbs are ****in' with them for 15 minutes I'm long gone.
