Explanation is in order. Local guy that I've been buying jets from for years sells them for $4 a pop. I'm confident that I could get the pilot jet close in two tries. Probably take four to five tries on the main. The only problem would lie in the needle. If I couldnt get it close enough I may have to buy one of those at $30 some dollars. This is without asking around first and finding out what others with comparable setups are running.

Last bike I jetted gained a whopping 3hp on the dyno after making 4 extra runs and jetting richer between runs. Alas, it was all for naught as the bike was too rich and unrideable on the street so it was switched back to my settings and lived happily ever after. If I can find the dyno sheets I'll post them up as they show AFR's being damn near perfect throughout the entire range.

I can remember jetting carbs, and changing out spring and counter weights on mechanical advance distributers. It may be cheaper but definately not easier.

$950 swing there. If that doesn't seem like much to you Tim, kindly deposit $950 into my Paypal account and I'll be just as giddy over EFI as you seem to be.
Or if you only do stage 1 the $150 download will do.

You obviously have a home computer, you don't need a lap top so, I spent $200 on my PCIII and tuned it once.

As stated before I'm swapping cams, which means I need to buy a tuner. After much research I have deemed the TTS my choice in tuning hardware. This means that I will need a laptop.

Its just frustrating that what should be a $400 cam swap, has now, due to sophistication and technology, turned into a $1500 ordeal. I just hope that it turns out the way I want it when I'm done.

Considering that 98% of the driving world has been running electronic fuel injected vehicles since 1986, the reliability isn't an issue, just some people are scared of technology, and or change. EFI is great on bikes, hated revving and warming my carbed bikes up in the cold, the rain, the in between temps, etc. All those that preach carbs are cheaper and the evil cpu that runs FI bikes will fry and it is cheaper to work on a carb are entitled to their opinions. Once you embrace the technology, you'll never go back, except for nostalgic purposes.

$1500?? cams are the same price no matter carb or EFI. I spent $200 on my PCIII and won't have to spend another dime on it.

Woods cams with 4deg gears $475. TTS tuner with cables $473.95 shipped to my door. Unknown brand laptop unknown price but consider $400-$500 a safe bet. Best case scenario has me looking at $1348.95.

There is no doubt that for tuning FI bikes, there is outlay in cash for equipment... unless you already have some of that equipment.... computer for example. Why does it take a laptop? For 500 bucks you can be damn sure I'd unhook my desktop system and move it to the garage for an afternoon.

I already have all the other tools (wrenches, torque bar...etc...etc) as do most who are doing their own stuff, or they are thinking about getting it.

To me the tuner is another tool in my box, to help me get the bike running right, but it's a pretty damn versatile tool! One time buy, and I can tune my bike no matter what I might do to the engine..... and there is the second benefit... "I" can tune my bike... and in a matter of minutes.

Yeah, I remember the 'several' years that I just stood back and feared the ECM.... I did. But this backyard/garage mechanic educated himself on fuel injection systems.

I have nothing against carb'd bikes... like I said, this is my first FI bike since I started riding at 10yrs old.

If you are going to use the V-Tune process with a TTS tuner a lap top has to be used because it has to ride with you as you take the Data needed to program the tuning file. If you are just loading a base map it doesn't matter what computer you use.

I have a carb, I would own FI. It does not make a difference to me. I do like my potato potato at idle though.
