I'm thinking I am going to make my own. There are several methods. You can get some fiberglass wrap at most off road dealerships, guys who race motor cross often wrap their baffles for added tq.(Or so I have read). Or, I have seen and read about people using stove rope . If I can find either of the two, I'm gonna try it.
I have never seen a "wrapped" baffle (baffle wrapped in fiberglas) but hear about them all the time on this forum. Does anyone have photo they can post of what a baffle looks like wrapped in fiberglas before being reinstalled into the muffler?
Amazing isn't it? Funny how our misconceptions are about free flowing exhaust. I'd always beleived open was better. Didn't know the physics behind it. Put some BCT's in my drags and now I'm a believer too.
If interested in reading it, here's a pretty good write up of the physics behind it all. (some have seen this I'm sure)
I know that the Quiet Baffles from V&H are running around $70 or so. I just wanted to chime in to say that if you wanted some extra back pressure without the "quiet" part, please consider some Big City Thunder baffles.
I just put a set in my V&H Shortshots and I had them in my old SEII's as well that I just took off. I believe the price is only a few dollars more. They attache the same way in the pipe - no drilling or anything.
What kind of a job is it to install the quieter baffle.Do you have to reset the fuel management system.I have the VH long shots on my Fat Bob and they are a we bit loud, but I do not want to go back to the factory sound or the screaming eagle tune. For 70 bucks I would give it a try if I can do it myself.Need to watch what I am doing here ,wife all most threw me out of the house when I came home from the bike shop with the VH system
I got the quiet baffles with the set of big shots staggered I bought from a guy slightly used. A bit too quiet for me so I took the fiberglass wrap off and reinstalled them. These baffles were not designed to run without the wrap I don't think, cause they got louder and lost all that low frequency thump. I'm going back to wide open until I get my BCT baffles. I think these pipes sound awesome open and I didn't really notice a difference in torque with or without baffles... maybe due to the power chamber aiding the scavenging process.
