Fat Bob touring setup project - DONE!
Today I finally completed my semi-quick detachable touring setup. I found a great price on a brand new set of Harley "distressed leather saddlebags" on eBay for $450. They are the largest capacity saddlebags that Harley sells for the Fat Bob, so getting them below MSRP ($600) was a great find. I bought some Barebacks to make them easily detachable.
Then I bought a Dyna tour pack bracket from a poster on here, Jackyl, that screws into my regular sideplates. A cheap, but large, plastic touring trunk from eBay finished it off.
I previously had a Kuryakyn Ultra Tour bag and throw over tourmaster saddlebags that left me with lots of straps hanging out and limited space, so I like this setup much better.
Beginning in late May, I'm taking a long trip from here (Northwestern North Dakota) to Texas, across the desert and up to Sacramento-area California, and back through Idaho/Yellowstone to North Dakota again. I'm going to do it in about a month in a half (some work has to be done along the way - shucks), so I figure I'll a lot of use out of the work I put in.
Did the same thing you did myself. Very handy with the extra storage and the wife loves it. I like it cause it comes off......and makes her happy. I had the brackets powdercoated flat black and the box vinyl wrapped and lined inside to blend better with the saddle bags. Also added the HD tour pack back rest as you can see which just takes a little moding.

DB - The trunk looks great wrapped like that. Where did you get that done (or how did you do it yourself)? I may have to borrow the idea!

that storage will be handy for trips...But most of all I like the mini-apes I've been looking to see what a Bob would look like with them. I am in the market for a bike and I am stuck between the Fat Bob and Street Bob. Leaning more toward the Fat espacially now that I've seen it with the Mini-apes...Very Nice!!
