Call me a fool but I am really trying to avoid saddlebags, I just dont like the looks of them. I have thought of the gran tour bag but wasnt sure if it was going to be big enough. Will the gran tour bag hold a week or two worth of supplies and what not?
I won't call you a fool, but I will share my experience. I have a T-Bag set that consists of two bags - a big rectangular one with a bunch of pockets and a smaller cylindrical one that can either attach to the top of be used independently on the sissy bar. You can put a fair amount of stuff in that setup.
For me, the problem is that once I put that cylindrical bag on my sissy bar, I never really take it off because it's just too damned handy to have a place to store a few items or pick up a couple of things from the store. Now I have this nylon bag on my bike all the time. Sure, the bike looks "best" naked, but it never actually gets ridden that way. IMO, nice saddlebags look much better than a sissy bar bag on full-time. Once you get used to having someplace to put stuff, it's hard to give it up. In fact, it really has the effect of turning the bike from a recreational toy into functional day-in-day-out transportation.
I'm looking forward to getting a set of Ironbags in a few weeks and can't wait to remove my luggage rack on sissy bar bag!
