Yes, that would increase it.

Also, I just put on leather gloves and get a good grip on the shock to adjust. The gloves give you the grip without slipping. No need for any wrench.

I picked up a shock wrench from Calgary HD for under $20 in September.
Rear shocks right?

I have the scissor like spanner from JP. Works like a charm, but I've had it since my FXR days.

I like the man way myself also but I use the rubber matt that the wifes opens jars with if her Heman is not around LoL, the kitchen tools are good for everything...

I have one like that too.
Is there something special about the Fat Bob shocks? I've adjusted them with a couple regular spanners, not even considering they might need something special.
