I have an 08 superglide. Just got stage I and python dual staggered exhaust. Sounds great, except when I come off the throttle at higher RPMs it backfires sometimes. Is this common or a tuning problem or no big deal? Thanks
I got a race tuner through the dealer and they did it. Spoke to them and they said that it was "running rich" and that the colder weather was playing a role. They said it would improve as it warmed up.

I have a set of Rush slip-ons, SERT and Stage I. A service tech from a dealer who didn't perform the work told me it was normal for Rush slip-ons. I don't know if that holds true for Pythons. He also stated thats it's not an issue unless the pops are heard when getting up into the revs and they have a high-pitched sound. This would indicate that's it's running too lean.

What kind of BS answer is that? Sounds like you need to find a tuner tech that knows what he is doing and leave those bozos alone.

First off it's not a backfire, it's decel popping, and yes it is common in stright open pipes like the ones you have. Secondly, it's not from the bike runningto rich, just the opposite, it's from running lean. The leaner your bike is the hotter it runs, when you let off the throttle, raw fuel escapes into the exhaust, when it enters the exhaust it explodes, causing decel popping. There are ways to make it minimal, but unfortunately for you it takes another tune, and if the tuner you are using didn't get it right the first time, chances are he won't get it right the second. My advice would be to find another tuner, if you can't find one and are willing to take a road trip, let me know. Him telling you it will get better in warmer weather is B.S. as he is just trying to put you off in hopes that you will get used to it and not return. If anything it will get worse in warmer weather. I know of tuners that try to richen the bike up bit in the cruising range in hopes that it will get better, i'll give you a hint, the problem isn't in cruising range.
