Default primary low from factory?

09 s.b. with 900 miles on it, i put a black derby cover on and decided to go ahead and service the primary. i only got 20 oz. out of it. should have 32. does the clutch pack soak some up on the 1st fill? did i do something wrong and not drained it all the way? any help is appreciated.

Sounds like MoCo muffed it. If there were that much clutch-pack absorption, they'd account for it at the factory. Can't imagine it did you any harm.

It might have been a little low, but you cant get everything out. When you service the bike, after you pull all the drain plugs, stand the bike up and sit on it for a few minutes and you will get more fluid out of it. Even doing that my bike still never takes an entire quart to fill back up maybe 26 oz or so to the bottom edge of the derby oppening. Oh a tip for you guys that have a hard time filling the primary, i use the top off a gear lube container it kinda nipple. It works perfect for filling the primary.

I tilt my bike right and left when draining fluids. I drained almost a full qt from the primary. My forks were low from the factory.

My 09 FXDF came with none at all. I drove it for 2 days and started to hear noise from the Primary and had to take it in. The dealer ended up replacing the tensioner, the primary chain and the clutch assembly, just to make sure there wasn't going to be any future problems.
