Hey - i bought fix my hog dvd to learn how to change fluids and lube cables and other simple maintenance - after watching the dvd I am confused in regards to the primary fluid....
In the dvd Bob removes the derby cover on the primary case and then removes the outer primary drain plug and you see fluid pouring out. He then opens the primary chain cover and does an adjustment and then moves away from the bike to a table to illustate the components found in the primary (clutch and chain). Where I am confused is he never returns to the bike to replace the outer primary drain tube and add fluid to the primary.....
Anyone have the details to finish this segment? Need to add fluid? Where is the filler cap? I am using HD's full synthetic in the engine and tranny - can I use that for the primary or is there a particular fluid?
You fill it thru the inspection cover.. The adjustment he made may have been either the tensioner (older Models) or a clutch adjustment.. Oh ya you can use the h/d stuff but a lot of guys just use automatic trans fluid . straight cheap old 10/w30 will work fine also ..
Put your drain plug back in and torque to spec. You then just pour whatever fluid your putting in, right into the primary hole. For my 09 it was 38 oz. Put your derby cover back on and torque to spec using a star pattern to alternate your torx screws.
