Hi,
I live in Vancouver, British Columbia.....I took the foot ball cover off and am running my zippers air cleaner exposed. Are there any issues with doing this? I have heard different opinions from two different harley dealer parts guys. One says no problem, the other says don't do it.....
nothing wrong with it. A heavy downpour could be a problem. Is the filter an oil filter like the K&N? if so you have a little better protection from moisture than a paper filter. Also the make rain socks for open filters to protect from the rain.
I haven't had a problem yet. Raining or washing the bike, it's been ok. I have 2 filters so I can always have a 'fresh' one ready to install. I probably change/wash more than I have to, so that probably helps with the rain.
It will lead to certain death for million so people.
Just kidding.
I ran my Ness Big Sucker exposed with no problems. From what I understand, it might only be an issue if riding in a prolonged downpour or if left sitting in the rain overnight.
Bought my bike last summer and ran exposed filter for the 4000km's I put on the bike. It is a K&N and I have had no problems. Drove through 2 major down pours too! One being for about 4 hours and the other just over an hour. No problem washing bike either.
LOL - I like how people in LA tell you its no problem......they prolly don't quite have a grasp on how much it rains up here (I live in Vancouver too....) even so I don't think its an issue unless you're parking the thing outside for long periods of time and as someone mentioned they make these breathable "rain covers" for the open filters that you can slip over it when it rains....which judging from what I'm looking at out my office window right now, seems to be all the friggin time.!!!!
Hey guys,
thanks for the replies....I don't usually ride that much in the rain and the bike is garage kept. So i'm guessing it shouldn't be a problem.
CRF where can you get those rain cover socks? I haven't seen one except for the HD heavy breather.
Mixter,
I'm running the Zipper A/C open with no problems. Only had to run in the rain once with it and everything worked fine. I don't even cover it when I wash it but certainly don't blast it with water either. You'll be fine, enjoy the ride.
Thanks for the info Low Wider.....where did you get that cover? I am trying to find a nice simple cover for mine, but can't seem to find many that have the middle bolt hole instead of the two or three screws.
