I run an open filter. I'm contemplating a cover because I live in a very sandy area and that coupled with a lot of rain, I find myself constantly cleaning and re-oiling it. The annoying as heck three torx screws are showing signs of wear. Time to find some new screws. I suppose buying a spare and keeping it ready to go is an option too.
As far as riding in the rain, I've been caught in some serious downpours/storms and never had an issue. I'm not blasting down the road either during situations like that which probably keeps water intake to a minimum.
If you're really worried about water intake, you can get a water sock for the filter.
Like the other poster mentioned...just enjoy the ride.
I love that look...goes perfect with the dyna platform, and a nice set of drag bars. Great look for very little money. I've never had any problem with mine either.
No problems with mine at all...I keep the stock cover handy if I'm going on a Long 1-2 day trip I'll usually swap out my custom cover for the stock one in-case of a heavy downpour. Takes like 1 minute too swap them out and atleast the stock cover provides filter coverage from rain etc. Either that or keep a rain sock handy...they help as well.
Thanks for the info Low Wider.....where did you get that cover? I am trying to find a nice simple cover for mine, but can't seem to find many that have the middle bolt hole instead of the two or three screws.
Mixter,
Yea, it's the stock cover that had the center cut out of it. Mudpuddle did mine, unfortunately he doesn't do them anymore. As stated before you can take a crack at it yourself with the "how to" in the under $50 section of the forum. I did go with the Zippers high flow A/C which is about 3/4" taller than standard SE or K&N filter. Supposed to give 10% more flow but I got it more for the looks.
