I got mine for free so I figured what the hell. I've only had it for a little while but it seems alright. I might go for the siren kit though. People at my work think it's a free for all to sit on and it pisses me off. With the siren I can catch them in the act and beat them.

I have it on mine but have never used it. I start reading the directions on how to program it and I get lost. Left turn signal 3 times, right turn signal 4 times, both turn signal s 1 time, do the hokey pokey and ya turn yourself around.........

My insurance could care less if it had security or not, so I ordered one without it. Saved 400 bucks and don't have to **** around with that damn fob thing.

I have one, but it was free+. I requested a bike without one and it showed up with one, it's on the invoice and I told them to take it off, I don't want it. I park at work behind a ****** wire fence, it's in a locked garage at night protected by a Rhodesian Ridgeback who gets out a dog door any time she hears a noise, and the bike is rarely out of my sight on the road, I ended up getting a 500.00 merchandise credit for them to leave it on, and the security device was free.

Guess I'm that one dissenting opinion...

I have the security system and like it - use it all the time.

I take a lot of trips, lots of 3 and 4 day runs. I'll stop for gas and run inside to get water, use the head, etc. I don't lock the fork, but I'll lock the ignition and hit the fob. Could someone grab it while I'm getting coffee or using the facilities? Sure...but its less likely.

Likewise, I generally overnight in hotels (I travel for my job so have about a gazillion points on various hotel reward plans). I lock it and throw a cover over the bike - but I also hit the fob. Its just one more issue a thief would need to deal with.

Is the security system a perfect solution? No - but its fast, easy to use and deal with (change the battery once a year: dudes, this is not a real challenge), and effective.

Six guys can still pick up my RKC and toss it in the back of a pickup, or bust the locks and roll it away - but its going to be a bitch to start up fast when the security system is set. Hopefully the delay gives me an opportunity to deploy the artillery.

Use it or not, whatever yanks your trigger.

But the security system is fast and easy to use, and on the road when I stop for gas or go inside to get a burger at McDonalds, I press the fob.
Works for me.

Best,

Doc

I had one added back in 2000 right out of the crate (before HD had theirs) called "The Immobilizer". Such a PIA to use and went off even when I turned down that I stopped using it. When I ordered my Road King I ordered it without the security system. I do use Kryptonite locks when I travel or take it to work. If I leave it outside, even though I live in a good neighborhood... I do use a Kryptonite New York "forgetaboutit" chain and lock. Oh btw .357 Magnum, 9mm S&W M&P & Remington 870 with 12g 00 buckshot.

the only way it would be worth it, to me, is if it had an alarm. if not all the signals do is flash and dont allow the bike to start easy... if somone is gonna steal your bike, they are not going to be riding it away and keep riding it... they are gonna part it out. they are going to put it in the back of a van or pickup. saw a video of how easy it would be to jack a bike of any kind, 4 guys, 2 ballbats/2x4's, and 30 seconds...
