I listen to my Ipod when on longer boring trips. I also listen if I go for an all day ride. I don't have it on all the time but not every road is a twisty mountain road so it helps break up some of the monotony. I don't trust the cars around me anyway and I'm always watching so I just keep doing my thing and I've never had a problem. I do know that in some states helmet speakers or bilateral ear buds are not on the legal side of things.

I've done it... I don't really care for it... it can make the time go by a little better on a long ride, but I like the ride... I ride with a buddy who can't ride 10 min without his ipod on. He's always screwing with it and I can see him and I think... thank god I'm not messing with something like that. Keep it simple stupid one less thing I have to screw with. I really just strip things down to the basics. That being said... my new jacket has a water proof ipod pocket and a place to route the wires for the earbuds...

I agree with some here that have posted about wearing ear plugs. I've found that that dramatically cuts down on rider fatigue and I've also noticed wearing them in the spring and the fall when it's chilly seems to cut down on the amount of colds I get.

It's funny, as soon as my butt hits the seat of my car, I turn on the radio or stick a cd in the player. But I just don't have the desire to listen to music while I'm riding. Doesn't even cross my mind. Nothing to do with safety, I'm entertained enough just riding.

I sometimes have my Creative MP3 player in my vest pocket and the Skull Candy ear buds in my ears while riding. I can hear the music fine at 70mph on the highway with no windshield. Great ear buds for riding. They do block out almost all noise though so if you aren't careful they could get you into trouble.

Ditto on the long trips. I had a problem hearing over the wind with earbuds, but have a pair of SkullCandy earphones. They block out most of the wind so I can hear the music. I am extra aware of the goings on around me, but nothing beats cruising to Iron Maiden!!

Smile Music while riding

Thanks for the info. I am just old I guess 62 yrs. young. Never thought about a long interstate run. Guess it would get boring listening to the bump of the expansion joints and the loud pipes. I live in central Texas and it is a 2 hr ride to Austin and the hill country for me. Thank goodness for watering holes along the way. Any suggestions of a good not very expensive set to get. Will be riding to the Big Bend area later this spring. This is at least 10 to 11 hrs on interstate.

Luther the Skull Candy ear buds can be had for around $20 and sometimes less on sale.
