N*SYNC ..."not so much" ...

Yesterday, while riding in to the ship, I listened to Beck, CCR, the Kinks, the Beatles, Warren Zevon, Violent Femmes, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Ramones, Rod Stewart, Everclear, Bob Marley, Foo Fighters, ZZ Top, Smashing Pumpkins, the Clash, Talking Heads, the Offspring, Chuck Berry, Oasis, Smash Mouth and the Beach Boys ... might have been a few more, I just flipped back through my shuffle song list ... pretty eclectic, huh? (It's all good ....)

Yeah ... all that ... it's a long commute ....

Don't do the Ipod thing but my gps has voice and on a trip I will have an earphone plugged in. Only comes on when a turn is coming. I like music but I like riding more. When I am riding I don't need music. Then again, kids "multi task" me, I am lucky I can chew gum and walk.

I say don't fix what ain't broke. Unless there is a rash of kids being killed because of iPods, then worry about it. Otherwise, I would appreciate MY tax dollars being spent on stopping some real crime.

I use these. They were custom made by Big Ears Inc. http://www.bigearinc.com/Products/BE-1C.aspx. They are quite pricey (you can go higher or lower) but what you feel and hear....or don't hear, you know it was worth it. They are comfortable to wear every minute of the day. When you play music, they sound incredible; when you don't they make it quiet. Honestly though, they can be a little dangerous when playing music because you here nothing but and I don't have them up high at all. I do only wear them on the long rides and I mostly wear a half helmet yet these work just the same under the full helmet. I also have a connection line that allows me to mute, change volume, change songs, and it also has a mic for having a phone conversation and it is capable of answering that call. I know that might be a little extreme but it is plenty nice making a call, while pulled over, without having to remove anything and the quality is awesome for both parties.

Never felt the urge for music while riding. They belong to two separate worlds.

I do have a bluetooth helmet speaker that lets me hear directions from the GPS when I have that on the bike. It doesn't talk much. Strictly it's illegal to "use or posess" helmet speakers in Massachusetts, so I understand that it's my own fault if some cop decides to call me on it.

When the mood strikes me I put one ear bud in and put the ipod on shuffle. Not too often the mood strikes me anymore though. I can hear fine, I'm sure much better than any of drivers in the cars I see with rattling license plates and plastic trim.
