I was early for a business appointment so I wandered around a used motorcycle dealer to kill time. Out of the 200 or so bikes in their showroom, this Dyna called my name. Was also tempted by a XR1200 that showed up the day of the trade but I've already owned a XL1200R. Dyna was in immaculate condition for 9 years old and had accessories I would have installed. Asked what they would do for a trade on my 8 year old Tiger and only needed $3K. Course now I've spend another $2K on seat, shocks, AC, fairing, pegs, luggage, bolts, tires.

My story starts in 03. I had grown up riding dirt bikes and rode several street bikes but never owned one. I had always wanted a Harley and had told my wife that before I turned 40 I was going to own one. One day her best friend and old college roommate called and invited us to go on a Sunday ride up the Natchez trace with them and other friends on bikes. College roommates husband had a FXDWG and one of his brothers who was looking to sale his 99 Springer offered for me to ride the Springer. My first time on a Harley and first time on a street bike in years was that day. I don't know who was more stupid the guy that let me take his Springer or me for riding it with mostly dirtbike experience. However that ride was one to remember both my wife and I loved the ride and we were both hooked.

I started looking at bikes at dealerships right away and was leaning toward the Wideglides as they just seemed to fit me better being 6'7". I found a new 03 Anniversary in Black/Silver at a dealership a couple hours away, loaded up the wife and we went to "LOOK". A couple hours later in Sept of 03 I had my Birthday present. We took many tripos on the 03 with our longest being a two week ride from MS to Sturgis with the return through WY, CO, KS MO and back to MS.

At that time our son was racing motocross and we were loading up the RV with racebikes 3-4 weekends a month and traveling to races. Along with the travel I was doing for work at that point the 03 was becoming a garage queen as there was no time to ride. I made the mistake of selling in the 03 after about 5 years.

Flash forward about 7 years my son is no longer racing MX and is building custom bikes and riding his own Harley. The itch came back for my wife and I with a desire to enjoy long bike rides again that we now have the time as well as to enjoy the road with our son. I start looking around for used Wideglides deciding I would find me a garage queen with low miles. I ran across an 08 Anniversary with 4940 miles in show room condition. Book was $10,300 and the seller wanted $9800. I took the bike for a ride, fell in love and counted off $9K in $100 bills. He took the offer and I took the bike and absolutely love it. Still need to add the Mustang seat like I had on my 03 along with the 3" extension for the forward controls.

Here is a bike from a ride Sunday, my 08 and one of my sons recent builds. 73 Shovel, Jammer Frame, Girder front end and Invader wheels all of which along with the seat were original mid 70 parts. The seat he had recovered, the frame had never been built the frontend and wheels were still in shrink wrap.

After riding metrics on and off for about fifty years; I decided to scratch Harley off my bucket list. A couple of months ago I stumbled across an 03 anniversary model FXD with only three thousand miles. My other bike is Kawasaki Nomad bagger. At about 150 pounds lighter; the Superglide is much more fun to ride and handles so much better. It's pretty basic with polished cases and not much chrome; but that's why I like it. At 68 I'm over the chrome and loud exhaust thing. My Nomad is more comfortable for traveling; but I like the Superglide for everything else.

I was looking for a bigger bike because I found out after trial and error that my Sportster wouldn't cut it for two up wit me and the OL. Found my 05 with three thousand on it for 7500. I thought it was a deal at the time in 2013. I do like it. it ***** and gits, but I still ride the Sportster often when I am on local one up rides.

Sold my Goldwing last year and went to a large local dealership to check out the Victory Cross Country Tour model. One heavy beast to get off the sidestand so went across the street to look at a Road Glide Ultra I had a hard on for. Walking around I found a used 2011 FXDC already decked out almost perfectly for me. Price was great and I walked out a very happy customer!!!

Had an Iron 883 that was fairly modified - pipes, seat, shocks, bars, a/c, tank lift, tune, pegs, grips, Daymaker etc. etc. - and a man in a pickup truck ran it over. Got his info and a signed admission of total fault. Turns out he had bent the frame, so the bike was totaled.

I spent the next week or so in a total funk. I loved that bloody bike and it was just so... sorted. I kept finding myself staring into space and then I'd snap out of my fugue state, curse under my breath and try to get on with my day without being mean to folks.

Progressive, bless them, fought on my behalf and got me full brand-new replacement value for the Sporty, including all parts & accessories, taxes and fees. Took that, bowed to peer pressure from my Dyna-owning friends, and bought a brand-new Street Bob from Oakland HD, who had done the initial tow and estimate after the Sporty was damaged.

Every cloud has a silver lining and all that.

Default Got lucky.

Been looking for a few months. Already had a metric cruiser, 2011 Honda Interstate, but got to feeling the Harley itch again. Dealership in Memphis called and had a bike I needed to look at And it would fit in my budget.
Went to a Memphis on a Sunday, test rode it, brought it home.
2002 Dyna Super Glide-3,729 miles-*** load of extra goodies- $5300.
Big kudos to Bumpus Harley Davidson of Memphis and to Kris Brett. They busted their *** and got me the deal of a lifetime.
Oh and it also has the solid cast aluminium rear wheel and chrome upper and lower belt guards.

Grew up riding dirtbikes, quads, sleds. Got into sportbikes as soon as i was old enough too. Been riding sportbikes and supermotos for the passed 15 years. Im 33 now, a lot of buddies made the switch. At first I couldnt seem to find a Harley that I liked that wasnt a custom, or hard tail old school bobber, or a $20K plus bike. Then I started noticing dynas more and more. Got an 08 FXDC on the way up from NC as we speak. Cant wait to ride!!!

Was missing my Sporty this last cold winter in Chicago.Having put 75,000 miles on my bagger I decided I would save her for the long road and get me a second scooter for boppin around the hood.Took a little road trip in the bitter cold of January to Woodstock Harley where I knew they had a few hundred used bikes to gander at.Well I'm too big of a guy to strap a sporty to, looks like 2 wheels stickin out of a fat guys ***, though I really love that Sporty 48!But I was likin some of the used dynas they had. After leaving that day the sales manager left me quite a few messages wondering why I left.Called him back and he said he had an offer on a new bike that I couldn't refuse.Well the Burnt Wiskey paint job on mostly black had me in love at first site. Then the 2500 knocked off the price had me wettin my shorts! On top of that 2.9 financing was icing on one saweeeeeet deal!

I had a big bike crash in June 2012
My wife started an affair with my best friend while I was in hospital & divorced me.
When I got out of hospital, I bought a 883 Sporty but was not physically able to ride it.
I got a friend to take the rear seat off. A statement of intent I suppose.
It just sat in my garage, looking shiny & giving me motivation to get my health & life back on track.

That first ride in March 2013, I cried like a baby. I still couldn't walk properly & had a solo bag with foldup walking sticks on the bike.

Life rolls on & time heals all wounds.
During 2014 , I met a lovely lady , who wasn't into biking at all but now loves it & wants to ride every where with me.
The back seat went back on the Sportster...
Although I love it & it has a special place in my life, my Sporty just isn't powerful enough or roomy enough for 2 up riding , which is what every ride is these days.

A couple of months ago, I saw an old 2001 FXD for sale on the 'Net, immaculate with virtually no mileage.
I thought it was just what I needed, basically a super sized Sportster.
I made the guy what I thought was a fairly insulting offer, surprisingly he said yes, which sort of put me on the spot.
It is now mine.
I was right, it was just what I needed...
