I have a 09 Dyna Low Rider and did not like the mufflers. I located a set of SE Dyna Low Rider mufflers (had the entire exhaust) from an honest person and got them set to the house. I installed only the mufflers. Sounded just like the stock mufflers. So on one of the bike nights at a local restaurant I heard a SE Dyna that had the stock SE Dyna exhaust and it sounded great. Loud but not to loud. He told me " take the packing out of them" "it will sound better". So tonight I took the mufflers off and a part (three rivets) and took the fiberglass packing out. I also noticed the baffles had Catalytic converters. Exhaust was not from an emission state. Now my bike sounds better than his did.
Questions:
Does all the SE factory bikes have CATs'?
Was this normal? So much packing it was to quiet.

All 07 and up CVO bikes have cats. Some are in the mufflers and some are in the head pipes.
Removing the fiberglass packing does give a throatier exhaust. That's what I did with the 09 Street Bob muffs I put on my bike. These muffs are essentially identical to the straight cut CVO Dyna muffs except they don't have cats in them.
Nice to know this. It was a shock to find the cats in the muffler, that is why I just changed out the mufflers and not the whole exhaust. I should have looked at them better the first time. I would have removed the packing from the start. I did think about cutting out the cats but did not see the need yet. Maybe someone makes a better baffle for them.

Here's a pic of the baffles out of the straight cut Street Bob muffs. I'm curious as to what the baffles in the CVO muffs look like in comparison.
You may just want to take a punch or chisel and "clean out" the cats, i.e., knock out all the substrate material. (I had a muffler shop do that to the dual cats on a 76 Ford Torino I had with a 351 Cleveland. The air pump malfunctioned and the cats melted and plugged up the exhaust. They "cleaned out" the cats, put 'em back, on and she ran great--though with no more "rotten egg" smell from the exhaust.)
