Talk about a pain in the arse!

After taking forever ... including two trips to the store ... I was sitting there thinking to myself: "well, I don't feel like a third run to the store for a 1-1/8" socket for the rear sprocket, so ... guess I could just cut it off" ....
So, I started in with a hacksaw on the inner side of the primary ... after about 30 or 40minutes of getting absolutely nowhere and starting to lose my patience ... I cast about and spied my grinder ...
... cut it at an angle about three times to get it down to a manueverable length ... then cut the end off the shifter linkage to be able to twist it around down between the motor, trans and primary to get it out finally ... took probably 4 or more like 5 hours or so ...
I flushed the inner primary, chain and sprockets out good with solvent and cleaned it out good ... rotating the chain about two or three times to make sure I flushed out all the metal filings ...
A couple of minor nicks in spots ... but no damage done ...
On the '05, the shifter goes through a plastic tube that is clamped to the inner primary and goes through the inspection cover ... I just cut the tube off flush with the inspection cover and put the inside back in place clamped to the inner primary ... I think I'll get a plug to cap off the end of the tube inside of the primary, although I am confident the inspection cover closes it off to the inside of the primary for now ... just out of an abundance of caution ....
Buttoned the thing up, added lubricant and OPTEST SAT ... everything's cool ... I guess all's well that ends well, but man ... what a PAIN!!
If anyone needs further details on how NOT to do it ... don't PM me cause I don't feel like thinking about it anymore ... my head hurts ....
