Hello, just joined the forum, and posted in the newbie section, thanks for the greetings. My question is about speedo placement if I put some softail drag bars on my "05 Super Glide. Is there a bracket or a kit to move the speedo? Thanks. TK
I put the 6" risers and drag bars from a night train on my fxd. I just went to my local hardware store and bought longer 3" bolts and a couple of two inch spacers. I repositioned the speedo above the eyebrow. It totally cleaned up the handlebar area. I think it looks pretty sharp.
It's not that hard just torque everything back to spec. The last thing you need is for your handlebars to loosen while your riding.
im interested i this too. i would like to see pics very much. how long are those bars? what's the riding position like? are your turn signals still attached to the bars or did you relocate them to the forks?
I'm thinking about trying to mount the Dyna Superglide speedo in the Sportster 1200 Custom speedo guage mount seen on page 127, pictured in Item H in the HD 2005 Accessory Catalog. The item actually featured in Item H is the Instrument Guage Bezel, but it provides a good picture of the speedo mount and bar clamp I'm talking about. My dealer says the speedo on the Dyna Superglide is the same size as the one on the Sportster and the five indicator lights from the Superglide will fit in the space for the Sportster indicator lights. If using the Sportster mount and clamp will work, it moves the speedo from above the bar as per the stock Superglide configuration to below the bar and closer to the tank in the Sportster configuration.
Questions are: Will four inch risers lift the speedo high enough to clear the tank or will six inch risers be required? Straight or pullback risers (straight will provide more clearance, pullback less clearance because of the tilt toward the tank)? New cables (speedo, brake, clutch) required? This won't be cheap, but it sure beats having the speedo at just below eye level when the stock Superglide guage mount is used. I already relocated my turn signals to the forks, so the hard part (LOL) is done.
Comments, suggestions (besides "don't try to fix what ain't broke"), experience?
I seriously considered doing the same thing. I, however, and cheap and decided to just mount the speedo above the eyebrow. From what I learned while researching the sporty speedo, it should work with ho problem. I bet it would look really nice, too!
Don't take my word for it, though. Ask the service guys at your dealer. DON'T ask the parts guys. Most of them, from my own personal experience, don't know much more than you or I. Anything you ask them will be answered straight out of the catalog.
i can't find a kit to relocate the signals on the harley website. i have seen them relocated on superglides before. the only thing i saw supposedly would not fit my super glide. do you guys havea link to the kit or brackets you used?
