I have always had a full face, my eyes just can't take the wind, even with goggles they get very irritated.
I've had HJC and they are fine. I have an HD helmet right now made by HJC and I got in on clearance for $79 at the dealer. It's exactly like one of the HJC models (sorry I don't know the model number). It's decent but cheap helmet compared to a higher quality one like Arai.
One of my buddies has a $500 Arai and you can definetly tell a difference in quality and confort.
Not sure how they would compare in an accident but I will say my HD (HJC) helmet took a hard hit in my accident back in January, I was VERY glad I was wearing it. But now I need to get a new one. They say after a helmet takes a hit, it should be replaced. But you would never know by looking at it, it still looks new.
I wear a Shoei RF1000. Decided on it after trying on a few different models to get what felt comfortable to me. Also, I wanted something that was comfortable with or without glasses on and it works for me. I shopped around and found I could get the solid metallic for $275 (if memory serves) by ordering online. Another plus for the Shoei is the shield is really easy to pop on and off for cleaning.
By the way, in a hard driving rain the inside of the shield will get water drops. If it happens to be in the upper 40's it can be pretty miserable too.
