Default Ignition Switch Relocation

To all you guys that have relocated your ignition switches below the speedometers on your Streetbobs, instead of cutting the wires off the switch on the neck and routing them to the new switch, is it possible to simply run new wires from the new switch to the battery, accessory, and ignition terminals on the fuse block. Thanks in advance.

Default Ignition Switch Relocation

Sure it's possible but what would be the advantage of doing that ? You would have to cap off the old wires to the ignition and route new ones through the back bone to the battery and fuse block. It would be a pain in the butt.

i wouldn't cut anything off. i'd just tap into the existing wires in parallel. meaning that the existing switch would still be there and be fuctional. either ignition switch could then be used. not that there's any distinct advantage to having both.

This would probably be a better option, build a harness between the old swith and new one, after the switch install plug and play.

Default New Harness

You can build a new harness to clip on to the end of the old one but it would be a good idea to put shrink wrap at the connectors so they will not short out. I left my old switch in place to become the fork lock only and ordered a new switch keyed to the stock ignition so I only have one key for both. Harley makes a new complete set with a fork lock and ignition for about 300.00 to 350.00. My new keyed switch was about 67.00.
