Start up runs fine, going down the road starts popping and misfiring.turn the igniton switch from lights to ignition it ,clears up and runs fine again.any help would really be appreciated .also where is the fuse box on the 89flhtc? There has to be one right?
I'm thinking you have a loose wire under your ignition switch OR your ignition switch itself is crapping out.
I would disconnect negative on battery and remove ignition switch for inspection, these switches are mechanical inside and do this often, it can be swapped out with a identical looking electronic switch. Much smoother and more reliable, good price, I swapped mine out. Bought thru J&P CYCLE...
Agreed. If going with the ignition switch, HD will remind you it is obsolete. Tedd's V-Twin buys out such stock and sells it to guys in need as yourself. Be prepared for sticker shock though.

But do recommend the electronic switch over the older mechanical style for reliability....
You be right, forgot he had different style, my bad. Still think it's his issue or at least a starting point.
I opened the fairing and after basically dismantling the bike got the switch out.cant find a switch local.so I disconnected the green wire and ran a lead with a circuit breaker and toggle switch from the battery to it. the lights work.schould have it back together tomorrow and will see if it straightened up.thanks for the help and keep fingers crossed.
And if it does I will find a switch.
I hate rigging stuff but you do what you have do.

You do what what have to do to keep it running. Good luck!

Up date, got everything back together running good with the lights on the wire I ran, however turn signals, which are still coming through the ignition cause the spit and sputter. I need an igniton switch that's unavailable.any way to convert over a three or six wire switch? I don't mind relocating the switch if necessary.
