I also live at least three miles down a gravel road and my FXDC is black because that is the color I wanted. From experience there are only three colors that don't look like crap by the time I get to the highway and those are: White, Grey or Silver. Forget about chrome wheels, they always look silver after about half a mile. I really considered getting a silver(or grey?) FXD so that it wouldn't look so bad, but I like black and chrome! BTW the Dyna is one of the most stable bikes I've ridden on rock. I only drove a Sportster for about two months before I traded and it was fine but the Dyna is a lot better. My Goldwing felt like I was driving on ice all the way.
That's one reason I like the pewter denim. It always looks pretty clean even if dirty. Silver tends to do that.
+1 on that, sometimes if want to make the bike look a little cleaner with out really breaking into it Ill just hit the chrome with a little bit of polish and ignore the paint.
Also Northern VA isn't the dustiest environment, at least if you aren't including pollen...
hell no! you want a gloss on that sucker... the denim paint you can not wax so the dirt and crap will get stuck to it, when you wipe it down the chances of scratching it are 10000x's greater!
powder coat them... they will be tuff as nails and you can wipe them down wiht anything
