Anyone know a number for Harley? I'm not even sure they are going to give me an extended warranty and a few services out of this.

I see no sense going to a stage 1 103 at this point.
HORSE****!

my dealer told me the same thing about installing SE cams. He said "we'd still warranty oil leaks and stuff but if the cause can be figured to be the cams, we won't warranty it." HORSE****! Hd bike with hd parts and they void the warranty. HORSE****.

Well, the dealer was right...sort of. If you had a warranty claim for ANYTHING (not just something minor like an oil leak), they would have to honor it unless they could prove that the cams caused the problem.

just called Harley, she said cams wont completely void the warranty, if anything happens to the engine they need to prove it was the cams. She made note of the conversation and gave me a confirmation number.
Now adding SE255 cams will run about $350 and a heavy breather will go about $275, that's $625 not including download. The stage 1 103 kit is about $700. Which is the better bang for the buck?
I have a PC V at home, do I need a download?

Don't need the download if you're installing the PC V.

Cams and heavy breather is the way to go, IMO, for the reasons I've already stated in previous posts.

Everybody is a tough-guy on the web. Remember, you can threaten to call in the attorneys (who you'll have to pay), pound your fist on the desk and make demands as prescribed here....or you can take a more reasonable approach that doesn't ignore the value in maintaining a healthy relationship with your dealership...especially if they're going to be working on your bike. If you can develop and maintain a good repoir with the Service team, I'll bet this entire process will flow with fewer headaches and better follow-up after the build. Your call. Not sure I'd want to have them implement mods that can later be used to argue future warranty work either. The benefits probably won't be worth the potential grief down the road. . .unless you're drag-racing your bike or have some such special requirements.

Another admittedly under-informed comment about cams: HP isn't everything...especially on a 75 hp 700 lb bike. Make sure you understand the effects of the cam on every-day riding. I installed an Andrews cam (many years ago) on a 93 Softail. Don't remember which cam it was. Crusing along, like through a parking lot or down a side-street at low rpm was very choppy and jerky. Ultimately, the expense in low rpm choppiness wasn't worth the barely-detectable improvement at the top of the tach. Again...it was many years ago and perhaps things have improved in terms of cam grinds, EFI, etc. But thought it would be worth mentioning.

Good luck with your bike. You are the one that has to live with the results...so take in all the info you can, and make the best logical decision for yourself.

Well after many questions and answers, I've decided to just have them rebuild my engine with the new cases back to stock. They are picking my bike up tomorrow and they wanted to know an answer to the engine mods by today so they could get the parts and have it back together by next week. Not enough time for me to research and decide what way I want to go with the bike, engine wise. I know I'd save a good amount on labor costs now but I don't want to rush into it. I am still going to push for at least an extra year warranty and for the dealer to perform the first couple services. I will let you know how that comes out.
Thanks to all for you input.

WoW. Missed the chance to put 103" jugs in the beast for no labor cost. Too bad. Fine bike tho, either way.
